Certification

Certification.

Commercial drone operations mandate certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a prerequisite applicable to various purposes, such as aerial photography and videography.

In addition to passing an airman knowledge test, an drone pilot must always be aware and implement the following:

  • Understand and comply with FAA regulations, especially Part 107 requirements.
  • Navigate and interpret airspace regulations and restrictions.
  • Have knowledge of weather patterns and their impact on drone flights.
  • Operate and maintain the drone equipment safely and effectively.
  • Plan and execute flights with considerations for safety and risk management.
  • Interpret aeronautical charts and maps for flight planning.
  • Be aware of emergency procedures and troubleshooting for in-flight issues.
  • Keep up-to-date with technological advancements and industry updates.
  • Understand privacy and ethical considerations when capturing images or data.
  • Communicate effectively with air traffic control and other relevant authorities when necessary.

FAA Guidelines.

By law, we are required to follow FAA rules and regulations. Where and when we can fly is on a project to project basis. However, there are certain circumstances in which we cannot fly. Note: All flights and situations have to be considered before a flight mission is approved and performed.

We cannot fly:

  • Restricted airspace or film areas where restricted airspace has been established.
  • When a Temporary Flight Restriction is active.
  • Over nature preserves that have been designated as no fly areas due to noise.
  • During active military flight drills.
  • In any weather conditions that could pose a safety risk.
  • Other conditions/situations we may not have listed here, but would be determine prior to flight.
  • Some situations require us to get permission before:
    • When prior flight authorization is in a particular airspace is required (e.g. near a major airport).
    • Flight over people
